This WP embodies the activities of implementation modules that are involved into intermediate steps. The objective of WP5 will aim to produce a solvent evaporation/exchange module. During the synthesis of radiopharmaceuticals, the exchange of solvents (replacement of water by an organic solvent or viceversa) is often required. The solvent removal should be performed fast and in a flowing-through mode, which will enable the implementation into a microfluidic network. Different approaches, such as the positioning of porous particles in specially designed micro channels to enhance drying, the alteration of porosity of chip material, and the realization of co-/conterflowing streams of solvents of different hydrophobicity, will be exploited and their efficiency and suitability for the modulated device evaluated. Furthermore, the implementation of particles and membranes as support in alternative reaction schemes will be tested. The modules designed in this workpackage will be refined in combination with other modules (particularly, from WP3 and WP4) for their applicability in the syntheses of radioactive/non-radioactive pharmaceuticals.
